Cars Old And New Going Green

The new thing that is taking the world by storm is adopting green policies that favor environmental protection. If you read new, there is already a worldwide effort to promote steps in saving the environment and trying to stop the effects of global warming. In most industries, these changes have taken place. Shops have switched from reusable bags or paper bags instead of going for plastic bags. In the automotive industry, there are many measures being taken in order to promote the new green is in trend. Cars have now been designed to make less exhaust to minimize their contribution to the greenhouse effect. Other cars have been made to run on organic or bio fuels, which create less smoke and therefore less damage to the environment.

Another thing that is big in the automotive world is recycling cars. In the European Union, there is already a directive that promotes and supports car recycling as well as recycling automotive components. In December 2002, a new E.U. directive was issued that compels car owners to obtain a certificate of destruction. This certificate removes the owners' responsibility of contractual ownership of a car.

This new policy could have drastic effects on recycling and saving the environment. Many car parts, even from green cars, especially when left in scrap yards or junk yards, leak harmful substances that destroy its immediate environment. With this policy, however, cars' components and parts should be recycled before they are broken down into heaps of scraps. Technicians have been required to classify harmful parts of cars and decontaminate them. Recycling plants, which take care of old, cars to be crushed need to classify the car's parts into three categories or zones. Rubber and plastic parts are thrown into the trash category but there are efforts to re-classify these parts and find other uses for them.

When one brings a car to the recycling facility, it is first weighed and labeled. Then, the car and its components start to get decontaminated. They first remove the wheels and the battery. Then the plastic parts are segregated. Next, the oil, anti-freeze, and brake fluid are removed so that nothing spills on the ground or soil. After removing these, the next fluid that they drain from the car is the fuel. The last components to be removed in this process are the gases or air used in the car. The airbags and the air conditioning are removed from the car. After this, the decontamination process is done.

Useful car parts or those that still work could still be sold as secondhand parts to those who own the same model or brand. The good thing about this is that not a thing goes to waste and owners of old car models do not have to scour alleys and back alleys for these parts.

As the world starts to move against climate change, it is such a relief that many industries have adopted policies that help promote environment preservation and care. If industries continue to promote such measures, then there is hope for the future.
